Resident Reports Tax Refund Collected By Imposter
A Lawrence County resident filed a complaint with local law enforcement officers on Monday after discovering that, before he could do so, an imposter collected his 2011 income tax refund.
The victim, age 52, of Shepherd Road, reported the matter through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. He said after filing his 2011 income tax report via a local tax service, he received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service, indicating that a refund of $1,767.57 had already been issued in his name.
The victim told deputies he needed a copy of the police report to be utilized in an investigation being conducted through the IRS.
